The school started since 1952. The school was started in a small hut with 3 teachers. The administration office was situated in Batticaloa.

Next a building was acquired to the school from the Galoya Development board. The school was Sinhala and Tamil medium school. School was called as Inginiyagala Maha Vidyalaya and in 70’s it was renamed as D.S Senanayaka maha vidyalaya as tribute to the late prime minister Hon. Mr. D.S Senanayaka.

The school was situated near by the Senanayaka Samudra in Inginiyagala, which is the largest among reservoirs in Sri Lanka. The reservoir supplies water to the paddy fields of the Eastern Sri Lanka up to Kalmunai.

Most of them engage in the fisheries and paddy industry.

The school have around 500 children and 28 teachers. Progress of the examination results of GCE ordinary level , GCE advanced level and scholarship examinations are rate around 85% which is higher among Monaragala district in the Uva province schools.

Most children select to the all island places of aesthetic, Sinhala and sports competitions etc every year.

The school media unit started since 2004. The founder was Mr. S.P Karunadasa, the principal. Next Mr. Darshana Kumara took the responsibity. Now Mr. Kumara Ekanayake is the section head.

He trained the children through Uva Community Radio(98.4 FM) in Bandarawela, Sri Lanka. Mr. Pradeepa jayalath and Mr. Ajith Wasantha Epa who are journalists of UCR helped very much to train the children.

Next Plan International, Monaragala donated mini radio studio recently.

Meantime we were able to contact various organizations to develop the media unit. NethIma media foundation joined hands with us and they sponsored to get a foreign training to this young children in 2011.

Dhammika Nishantha won a gold medal as young environmental journalist in Sri Lanka in 2011. The event was held at the BMICH, Colombo, Sri Lanka. The competition was organized by the children skills development centre, Colombo.

We are to launch a test FM radio transmission as Digamadulu FM with pod casts. The objective is to get a real life experience in a radio studio to the children.

Plan International  in Monaragala in Sri Lanka donated fully equipped radio studio to the school.

By using this equipments we are to launch a testing radio transmission to get the experience to the children. The station is called Digamadulu FM.
